shenyang design & research institute of sino-coal international engineering group was first established in october, 1952. now it has the grade a qualification in engineering design of coal mines, architecture, civil explosive equipment and materials, intelligent building system and special engineering of environmental protection, and the grade b qualification in electric power, road, machinery and municipal facilities. it also has the grade a qualification in the evaluation of water and soil conservation and environmental impact of construction projects as well as project general contracting, exploration survey, consultation, budgeting and construction supervision.

the institute possesses expertise in all related fields, competitive technology and advanced design means. there are currently 650 employees in the institute, of which 227 are senior engineers, and 125 are engineers. there is a national design master, 22 registered architects, 17 registered structural engineers, 12 registered budgetary engineers and 66 registered supervision engineers. there are more than 20 specialties in the institute, including surface mining, underground mining, coal preparation, power generation, architecture, machinery, mechanics and electrics, communication, heating and ventilation, water supply and drainage, coal chemistry, explosives, railway, highway, bridge and culvert, environmental protection, engineering geology, engineering survey, engineering economics and information and archive, etc.. surface mining is the mane-brand specialty of the institute. it can undertake exploration and survey, design, consultation, supervision and general contract of construction projects such as large-scale mining complex surface mines, underground mines, coal preparation plants, explosive factories, thermal power plants, residential complex, hospitals, schools, as well as highways, railway, power transmission and transformation facilities, sewage treatment and so on.

in more than 50 years, shenyang institute has completed more than 1000 design projects with a total designed coal production capacity of 300 mt, which makes up one-fourth of the total coal production of china. the projects spread over 25 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of china. and it also completed more than 160 scientific research projects and standard designs. it hosted or participated in the edition of more than 50 items of national and ministerial norms, codes, standards and rules. in recent years, more than 160 items of engineering design, computer application software and scientific research have been awarded the prize of excellent design and the prize of scientific advance by the state and ministry, of which there are 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bonze medals of design at the national-level; more than 110 items of provincial and ministerial level prize of excellent engineering survey and designs; 29 items of prize of scientific advance above provincial and ministerial level; 6 items of excellent standard design above ministerial level
